Wild Shiner Bass Fishing Report:
July
2003
Florida bass fishing reports for
each month of the 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999 and 1998 calendar
years that describe the amount and size of bass caught, the Florida
shiner and artificial lure fishing techniques used by guides to
catch them, the areas of Lake Okeechobee that produced the best
bass fishing action, and other bass fishing information is contained
in our Florida bass fishing reports. To ensure validity the angler's
name, address, city,
state, phone number, e-mail
address, date and
year the party fished is also included in every fishing report.
Bass
and bluegill fishing is again excellent for this month! Plastic
worms are the top producers. Topwater plugs are working real good
during the early morning and evening hours. Small shiners "only"
are the ticket to some fast action. Twenty or more bass a day
are the average now with 40 or more a day common. Bluegill fishing
is really very good with limits being taken daily.

Bass fishing anglers John
Knowles, his dad Ellis and 15 year-old Stefen (Mechanicsburg,
PA - john-impact@msn.com or impactracks@aol.com) caught 58 bass up to 3 lbs during 1 day
of plastic worm fishing with Cap'n
Ron on July 28, 2003. Bass were caught in the North Shore area
of Lake Okeechobee. They combined a day of wild boar hunting and
bagged 2 trophy wild boar hogs during a morning of wild boar hunting
with Ron's Guide Service on July 26, 2003. John's 22 year-old
son Brendan used a 12 gauge shotgun to bag a trophy boar that
sported 3
inch tusks. His boar hog
had only 3 legs and fought the hardest. We assume it lost it's
leg to an alligator. John's 15 year-old son Stefen used a 357
mag. handgun to bag a trophy boar that also sported 3 inch tusks. They hunted the sugar cane fields in the
town of Lakeport.

Fishing Report - July 8 & 9, 2003
Bass fishing anglers Steve and Ruth Pfaff (Sarasota,
FL - ph: 941-924-7917 - e-mail: spfaff4@comcast.net) caught and released
46
bass up to 3 lbs during 2 half days of shiner
and artificial plastic worm fishing with Captain Ron on afternoon
ofJuly 8th. and the morning of July 9th., 2003. They caught only
2
bass on
their first afternoon of fishing and 44 bass on their next morning of fishing. For some
reason the afternoon fishing was very poor. A large cotton mouth
snake which ran us out of the area we were fishing was of no help.
Bass were caught mostly on plastic worm in the North Shore area
of Lake Okeechobee. This couple on a previous fishing trip on
the afternoon of June 11th. and the morning of June 12th., 2003
caught a 100
bass!

Dear Ron,
Thank you for setting up a great fishing and hunting trip for
my boy, Spencer, and me last week on Lake Okeechobee. Everything
worked out fine. Spencer, who is twelve, and I were thrilled to
find out we were going to use an air boat with you for fishing.
It was exciting to see how dense the glades and lake were with
wildlife. The fish were abundant.
The hog
hunt was excellent. Our guides, Dick, and his son John, were totally
professional people all the way. They were great to be with. All
their dogs knew the program. Dick and John made us feel right
at home and handled all aspects of the hunt just right. They never
fussed over Spencer's age. He acted right with his weapon so they
pretty much treated him as an adult. That made it possible for
me to have a really good time.
We shot
two boar hogs in wooded rough patches in the cane fields. Spencer
was up first and used a Winchester Trapper .44 magnum with a 246
grain copper jacketed hollow point that took the hog down on the
first shot. I used the same round in my Marlin .44 magnum but
it took two shots since he didn't seem to notice the first one
that went trough the shoulder area while he was fighting with
the dogs. I didn't get their weights.
Dick and
John did a careful and thorough job of skinning and butchering
both hogs. John cut a five inch front section off the snout of
my hog so we could get the tusks; the top and bottom front sections
of the jaw bones are almost clean after only one week of leaving
them in the back yard with a cover over top and dousing them with
a pot of boiling water every other day or so. We brought the head
of Spencer's hog to Tyson's to mount. He was very easy to deal
with. We probably could have used a map to help find Tyson's house
down a farm road in Okeechobee.
I would
highly recommend Dick and John as guides and we hope to come back.
Please see
the ten photos.
Thanks Ron.
Best regards,
Steve
